Camera Shy, Spotlight High: Behind the Scenes at FounderX

When I joined FounderX as a marketing intern, one of the questions I was asked during the interview was, “How comfortable are you in front of the camera?” At the time, I thought, hmm, maybe for a few reels or team intros here and there. Little did I know that question would define our weekends. Fast forward to now, and here we are shooting content almost every weekend for social media, and suddenly, everything made sense. The camera isn’t just part of our toolkit; it’s practically a team member now.

As interns, it’s our job, or maybe our mission, to get people from other departments, like sales, operations, and HR, involved in team videos. And let me tell you, the moment someone hears, “Hey, marketing team is shooting a video…” you can literally see the fear in their eyes. The reactions? Pure comedy gold. Yes, most of them say “yes” (because… do they really have a choice?), but what follows is a spectrum of expressions worthy of a Netflix sitcom.

Some employees freeze. Like actual deer-in-headlights. “Video? No, no, I’m camera shy.” Others negotiate, “Okay, I’m fine if it’s just a photo. No video, please.” And then comes the dramatic plot twist, one sales team member flat out said that being in videos gives her a headache. A headache, folks. According to her, content shoots are a time-drain and completely derail her sales rhythm. Her reaction? “OH MY GOD!” Yep, with that much intensity.

Then there’s the planner, the one who said her mood depends on timing. If we tell her in advance, she’s excited, prepped, and ready to roll. But if we approach her spontaneously? Total chaos. She says she can’t give her 100% unless she’s mentally prepared for the spotlight, which, honestly, is fair.

But wait, every story has its twist. Enter: the outlier. One employee LOVES being in front of the camera. He literally said he wishes we could shoot every alternate day. Turns out, he was into acting before sales took over. Sales is his passion, but acting? That’s his love. And every shoot gives him that little throwback to his “lights, camera, action” days. He’s basically the Shah Rukh Khan of FounderX.

What’s even more hilarious is how everyone, even the most reluctant participants, eagerly waits for the final video to drop. The moment it hits our social media, there’s a buzz. Phones are out. Replays happen. Comments are read. And if the video gets good views? Oh, the bragging begins. “It’s because I was in it!” they say. We don’t argue, we sit back, and we just laugh and let them have their influencer moment.

Honestly, it’s these behind-the-scenes moments that make working in marketing at FounderX so memorable. Sure, getting people in front of the camera isn’t always easy. Sometimes it does feel like we’re dragging them to a surprise audition. But the laughter, the bloopers, the candid reactions, they’re all part of the magic. And in the end, whether they love it or hate it, they’re all proud of the outcome.

So next time you see a fun reel or a team video from FounderX, know this: it probably came with at least one dramatic “no,” one last-minute panic, and one employee trying to steal the show. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
